JAZMIN VALLE
Overview
Fides is a Mexican company that manages condominiums in Guadalajara. This company is growing and they are looking to develop a proprietary tool to help them manage different condominiums.

This is a comprehensive development plan that includes a new visual identity, landing page, mobile and web application tools, and product strategy.

The main objective is to create an MVP for the new apps to reduce communication gaps between management, homeowners and renters in a condominium.
My role
Product Strategy, User Research, UX Design, Interaction, Visual design,
Prototyping & Testing.
Mission
Create the MVP to reduce the communication gaps between management and owners in a condominium.

Explorative Research
I started to understand the process and the internal roles, identified tasks to be performed, and determined the requirements to build a product strategy.
So we started with the following UX research techniques.
-
User interviews
-
User personas
-
Competitive Analysis
-
Empathy maps
-
Mental model
1.1
User interviews
Objetives
-
Identify the primary roles inside the main operations for condominium management.
-
Specify the central activities the administrator needs to do to perform her job.
-
Explore the tools the administrator uses in her daily activities.
-
Understand the main information the homeowners and renters need with regards to the condominium and community space.
-
Determine the activities the house owners and renters do inside the administration office.

1.2
User personas
After interviewing the administrator inside a condominium, we understood there were four main roles in the management process.
-
Administrator
-
Resident
-
President of Administration Committee
-
Committee Treasurer

Competitive Analysis
It was important to identify what products or services our target customers are currently using to solve the same problems. Is there an equivalent product or service out there? What are the alternatives people are using at the moment and how effective are they?

Define
Requirements
Having defined the insights, we started developing some hypotheses and planning our next steps. I defined the main requirements that are needed for our MVP.
-
Being able to manage more than one condominium on the same platform.
-
Compatibility with excel files.
-
Allow sharing of all the necessary documents to make the information of income and expenses.
-
Establish a communication channel between administrators and residents.
-
Customized features related to user roles.
-
Evaluate the people who are on the committee and the administration anonymously.
-
See the results of income and expenses in a consistent way and with supporting documentation, using photographs, charts, etc.
-
Make the reservations for using common areas in an easy way.
-
Monitoring the payment of condominium fees. Differentiate slow payers from the rest, because they will lose rights inside the community.
-
Follow-up of complaints, suggestions and clarifications from residents of the condominium.
-
Preparation of monthly financial report for the committee.
-
Preparation and publication of calls for Assembly and Informative Meetings requested by the Committee.
Ideate
User flow diagrams
My ideation process started with sketches in my notebooks for initial concepts. Once I had a concept, I started working on the user flow diagrams.

The user flow diagrams help me understand how the app would work end-to-end. These diagrams ensured that we did not miss anything in the process.

Wireframing
Once the user flow diagrams were completed, I went ahead to create the wireframes.
Wireframes help establish the basic structure of the app, focusing on the user experience, navigation, functionality, information architecture, and usability tests.
We had some hypotheses determined from past user research. However, if some of them didn´t work when tested, creating wireframes was the fastest way to change our strategies.

Example of the wireframes created
Prototype
Hi-fi prototypes
Once we defined the new user flow, navigation, and functionality, I had to incorporate the brand style guidelines and look & feel into the wireframes. But I first needed to create a new Design System. In this new system, I added more colors, icons, components and patterns, which helped me maintain consistency throughout the app. This was also useful to accelerate my prototype design process.

Next steps
1. Test our hypotheses
We need to test the wireframes with real users to understand if our hypotheses are correct. Maybe we need to change our strategies to fulfill the needs of the users.
2. Create the web app wireframes
As we planned, we need to create a web app for the administrator and committee. We think the web app might be necessary for those users who prefer to use desktop versions.
3. Analyze feedback and iterate.
Once we test and analyse the information, we need to create new wireframes and test again.
